He married Elizabeth -Laura-Reine Lapointe in St. Germain, Quebec, 24 Mar 1863. Elizabeth was born Apr 1836. Elizabeth died before Jun 1909. At 27 years of age Elizabeth became the mother of Norbert Durand in Canada, 12 Dec 1863. At 31 years of age Elizabeth became the mother of Roch-Rock Durand 27 Jul 1867. Elizabeth became the mother of Samuel Durand in Quebec, Canada, about 1868. At 41 years of age Elizabeth became the mother of Ferdinand (Fred) Durand in Winnepeg, Canada, 3 May 1877.

At 23 years of age Joseph-Octave became the father of Norbert Durand in Canada, 12 Dec 1863. At 27 years of age Joseph-Octave became the father of Roch-Rock Durand 27 Jul 1867. Joseph-Octave became the father of Samuel Durand in Quebec, Canada, about 1868. At 36 years of age Joseph-Octave became the father of Ferdinand (Fred) Durand in Winnepeg, Canada, 3 May 1877.

Joseph-Octave Durand and Elizabeth -Laura-Reine Lapointe had the following children:
